Cellulose is Much better for reducing sound between rooms or separate living units...Below is a comparison rating when used in a typical 2x4 wood framed wall.

More and better sound deadening can be achieved by using 2x6 framing or staggered framing members sprayed with Cellulose when there is need for privacy.
